While EA Games is troubled by the development status of the upcoming “Dark Knight” video game adoption (*cough*), Edios slates a new Batman title based upon the comic franchise.

Batman: Arkham Asylem will place players in Batman’s cape as he battles the Joker, whom has meanicingly taken control of Arkham Asylem and unleashed all of the maniacs. Other characters in the game include classic villains such as The Riddler, Penguin, Scarecrow, and Killer Croc, with allies Commissioner Gordon and his daughter, Barbara.

It is running on the Unreal 3 Engine, and is played from a third-person, over-the-shoulder view, with emphasis both on combat and detective work. The game will feature simple controls (3 at the moment: attack, stun, and throw), as well as a stealth mode, and detective puzzles.

Arkham Asylem does not have a release date yet, but is slated for the PS3, 360, and PC in 2009.
